College Admissions Guidance
Personalized College Admissions Guidance for Every Step of the Journey
At Midwest College Planning, we believe college admissions is about more than simply getting accepted. It’s about helping students find colleges where they will thrive academically, socially, and financially. While admissions can feel overwhelming, our goal is to break the process into manageable steps, reduce stress, and help students present their strongest possible applications.
With over 17 years of experience helping families navigate the college planning process, we provide personalized guidance tailored to each student’s goals, interests, strengths, and budget.
Our Philosophy: Finding the Right Fit
Many families begin the college search focused on rankings or reputation. While those factors can be part of the conversation, we believe the best college is one where a student feels supported, challenged, and prepared for future success.
We help students identify colleges that align with:
Academic interests and career goals
Campus culture and social preferences
Geographic preferences
Extracurricular opportunities
Athletic recruiting opportunities, when applicable
Financial affordability
Our approach helps families create a balanced college list that includes schools where students are likely to be admitted, succeed, and graduate with manageable debt.
Our College Admissions Process
1. Student Assessment and Goal Setting
We begin by getting to know the student. We discuss academic interests, extracurricular activities, career aspirations, campus preferences, and family priorities.
2. College Search and School List Development
Together, we build a thoughtful list of colleges that fit the student’s goals and family’s financial expectations. Most students apply to a carefully selected group of schools that includes reach, target, and likely admission options.
3. Application Strategy
Every student receives guidance on application deadlines, admissions options, and overall strategy. We help families understand Early Action, Early Decision, Rolling Admissions, and Regular Decision processes so they can make informed choices.
4. Common Application Support
Students receive one-on-one assistance with the Common Application and other admissions platforms. We help students stay organized, complete applications accurately, and meet important deadlines.
5. Essay and Supplemental Guidance
The personal essay is often one of the most challenging parts of the admissions process. We work with students to brainstorm topics, develop authentic stories, and refine essays that showcase their character, experiences, and goals. We also provide support with supplemental essays required by individual colleges.
6. Admissions and Financial Aid Coordination
College admissions and college affordability often go hand in hand. We help families understand how admissions decisions, scholarships, and financial aid opportunities work together to impact the final cost of attendance.

Success is not defined solely by an acceptance letter. Success means helping students find colleges where they can grow, succeed, and graduate with confidence.
Some of our favorite moments occur when families experience that “aha” moment—when the right schools emerge, the admissions strategy comes together, and students begin to see a clear path forward.
